Asunción P2: Josemaría & Gonzalez Defeat World No. 1s for the Fourth Straight Time and Take Over the 2026 Race

Paula Josemaría and Bea Gonzalez continue their impressive run, cementing their status as the team to beat in women’s padel right now.

The Spanish duo claimed the Asunción P2 title in thrilling fashion, defeating world number 1 pair Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea with a score of 4/6, 6/3, 6/3. This victory marks their fourth consecutive final win against the top-ranked pair and sees them seize the lead in the 2026 Premier Padel Race.

A Defining Rivalry

This encounter was the fifth straight final between these two dominant teams, delivering another high-quality spectacle. Gemma Triay reached her 101st career final, matching the historic record held by Alejandra Salazar. Together with Brea, they also extended their remarkable streak of 11 consecutive finals.

Despite the strong start from the No. 1s, Josemaría and Gonzalez showed superior confidence and composure throughout the match.

Match Breakdown

First Set: Triay and Brea struck first. Josemaría/Gonzalez broke early to lead 4-2, but the world No. 1s responded with their trademark big-moment intensity, capitalising on small errors to take the set 6/4.

Second Set: The world No. 2 pair reacted immediately. With stronger baseline play, aggressive net work, and sharp tactics, they broke early and maintained control. Bea Gonzalez was particularly destructive, while Delfi Brea appeared less dominant than usual. Josemaría and Gonzalez closed out the set 6/3.

Third Set: A tense mental battle unfolded. Josemaría/Gonzalez broke early once again and refused to let go of the momentum. They dictated play with forward pressure, denying Triay and Brea time and space to build their attacks. The top seeds showed tremendous fight, saving seven match points, but the challengers’ dominance eventually prevailed, sealing the set and match 6/3.

Historic Momentum

With this win, Josemaría and Gonzalez have now secured:

  • Their fourth consecutive title
  • Their fourth consecutive victory over Triay/Brea in finals
  • The top spot in the 2026 Race

Bea Gonzalez also extended her personal unbeaten record in Paraguay, continuing to deliver standout performances on Paraguayan soil regardless of her partner.

Power Shift in Women’s Padel

Much like recent developments in the men’s game, a clear shift appears to be underway in women’s padel. While Triay and Brea remain incredibly consistent and finals regulars, Josemaría and Gonzalez have established clear superiority in decisive matches.

Given their current form and confidence, this pair looks extremely difficult to stop in the weeks ahead.

What a time for women’s padel! The rivalry is delivering incredible matches, and the battle for supremacy has never been more exciting.
