Revenge is Sweet in Gijon

Redemption in Gijón: Galán and Chingotto Claim Premier Padel P2 Glory

Gijón delivered an unforgettable week of elite padel, capped off by an electric atmosphere at the Palacio de Deportes. With over 5,000 fans cheering them on, Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto stole the show, while Ari Sánchez proved once again why she is one of the toughest competitors on the circuit.

Galán & Chingotto Topple the World No. 1s

In a thrilling men’s final, Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto claimed the Gijón Premier Padel P2 title, defeating Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia 7-5, 7-6. The victory arrived at the perfect time, serving as sweet payback for their previous clash in Riyadh.

To secure the win, the duo had to bring their absolute best from start to finish:

  • The Powerhouse: Galán showcased why he is one of the most decisive players on the tour, dictating the tempo with raw power and precision.
  • The Tactician: Chingotto delivered a masterclass in structure and strategy, providing the balance and control needed to shut down the world number ones in the tightest moments.

A Marathon Effort from Ari Sánchez

The tournament also highlighted an incredible run in the women’s draw. Ari Sánchez, partnering with Andrea Ustero, delivered a superb performance to reach the final.

An epic final saw Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay return to the title five months after their last trophy in Rotterdam, thanks to a 6-4 6-7 6-3 victory over Andrea Ustero and Ari Sanchez. The three-hour and three-minute marathon avenged their defeat in Riyadh and delivered the 10th title for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay as a pair, one year after their first, also won in Gijon. After losing the opening set, Andrea Ustero and Ari Sanchez led 5-2 in the second, but the comeback by Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay took the match to a tie-break. The final was decided in the third set by a break in the eighth game, with the number 3 seeds closing the match with more smashes (38-29) and more winners (59-57), but also with more unforced errors (61-41)

Looking Ahead to the Rest of 2026

The Gijón P2 sets a massive tone for the rest of the season. Galán and Chingotto have proven they are primed to fight for the top spot, and Ari Sánchez has made it crystal clear that she is ready to battle for every title this year.
