Major Upgrades Underway at Virgin Active Padel Club Gateway

Gateway’s padel scene is about to step up a level. Virgin Active Padel Club is expanding and modernising its facilities — bringing covered courts, new restrooms, and a fresh energy to one of Durban’s most popular padel destinations.

Why These Upgrades Matter

Durban’s erratic weather has long been a challenge for consistent play. With covered courts now being added, players will enjoy uninterrupted sessions no matter the conditions — rain or shine.

Beyond convenience, the expansion signals continued investment in the growth of local padel. Virgin Active is doubling down on building premium, accessible spaces that match South Africa’s rising enthusiasm for the sport.

New Restroom Facilities

Freshly built restroom facilities are now open within the court area — designed with modern finishes and player comfort in mind. The updated amenities reflect Virgin Active’s attention to detail, providing a higher standard for all players and guests using the space.

Covered Courts and Brand-New Builds

Construction is already underway to cover existing courts and introduce additional playing surfaces.
Courts 4, 5, and 6 (the Singles court) will temporarily close whilst roof support structures are installed. Once complete, Courts 4 and 5 will feature full overhead coverage — allowing play to continue through any weather conditions.

Phase 2 brings even more expansion: two brand-new covered doubles courts behind Court 6. When finished, Gateway will offer eight world-class courts — a major milestone for Durban’s growing padel community.
